Thirty Five Years / One Week

UNDERHILL, Linn

UNDERHILL, Linn

Rochester, NY: Visual Studies Workshop, 1981. [88]pp; offset; illus. 4to; signature-bound in printed pictorial wraps. A few stray pen marks to front cover. Light wear and scuffing along top of rear cover. Some crimping to corners. Near fine.

The first (and exhibition catalogs notwithstanding we believe the only) artist's book by American photographer Linn Underhill (1936-2019); a series of black-and-white photocollages, many with reproduced textual elements, including typescript, manuscript, and Kosuth-esque images of dictionary entries. A work about the death of Underhill's sister, Beverly Balwin Kahn, to whom the work is dedicated, and whose final age furnished the book's title. An affecting and visually striking work on themes of illness, memory, and loss.
