FORD, Shawn, ed.
San Francisco: Shred of Dignity, 1988. [16]pp; b&w offset illus. Unbound in pictorial self-wraps, 17-1/2 x 11-1/2 in. Horizontal fold; toning to fore-edge of front cover; creasing to corners of rear cover. Very good.
Third issue (presumably) of this scarce periodical published by the Shred of Dignity Skaters Union, a San Francisco (gay) skaters' rights group formed by Tom Jennings, Duke Crestfield, and Shawn Ford with the original mission of fighting a city ban of skateboards on the streets. Co-founder Jennings was also one of the creators of seminal queer zine Homocore (1988-1991), one of several zines published at the Skaters Union's Shipley Street headquarters, which also held music shows, skateboard events, weekly dinners, etc. Contents here consist of editorials, letters, news, scene reports, including articles on the Gilman Street Project venue, a strike at a local skateboard parts factory, an annotated map of San Francisco skate spots, etc. Illustrated throughout in black-and-white, and animated by a frenetic but impressively legible cut-and-paste aesthetic. OCLC locates only two institutions holding copies: Furman University and the Seattle Public Library.
