SAVAGE, Jon
SAVAGE, Jon
[London]: [Jon Savage], [1976]. [16] corner-stapled leaves, 12 x 8-1/4 in., offset printed to rectos only. Near fine, with edge toning and light wear.
The first of two total issues of this epochal punk zine by Jon Savage, who would go on to a career as a writer and music journalist, notably for his history of the Sex Pistols and the UK punk scene, England's Dreaming (1991). Contents consist of reproduced typescript and holograph texts by Savage, with copious collaged black-and-white illustrations throughout. Per Savage's recollection in the June 2002 issue of 3:AM Magazine and elsewhere, he created the zine over the course of two days in November 1976, photocopying an initial run of 50 copies, which was followed by an offset edition of 1,000 copies (of which this is one), distributed through Rough Trade beginning, presumably, in 1977, as the reproduced holograph text on the final sheet here opens with "Welcome to 1977!" A scarce and desirable document of the early UK punk scene.
