Uncommon English-language edition of the first book by French novelist René Victor Pilhes (1934-2021); a picaresque about an illegitimate young man's search for personal and social identity, winner in 1965 of the venerable Prix Médicis. Here translated from the French by Patsy Southgate and Lawrence M. Bensky. Jacket design by Al Nagy.
