The Abortion of My Mind

PILAR

PILAR

[London]: Prism Ltd, [1969]. Presumed first edition. 143pp., printed rectos only; title-page and floral border graphics printed in purple. Octavo; dark gray textured-paper stamped in gilt to front board and spine; dust jacket. Moderate bump to head of spine, with some splitting to the paper; light toning to textblock edges. Very good in a good (+) jacket with a 1.5" triangular chip to head of rear panel, numerous other small chips and short tears. Signed and inscribed to half-title: "To Musie with love Pilar."

Poems exploring various sensual-mystical-erotic themes, their dubious literary merit counterbalanced to some degree by the idiosyncratic enthusiasm of their composition—and punctuation! Of the author, Pilar, we find little credible information; a two-page foreword here identifies her as born in Peru in 1947, and adds that she has "worked for CBS Television, is no stranger to the advertising agencies on Madison Avenue, writes music and will soon be involved in writing and directing a film." A curiosity, and quite scarce: OCLC locates only three institutional holdings, including at Harvard. We find no other copies in the trade.
