ORLOVSKY, Peter
ORLOVSKY, Peter
San Francisco: City Lights Books, 1980. Second printing. 144pp. 12mo. Photo-illustrated wraps. Light soiling and rubbing to covers; soft crease to bottom front fore-corner; a few mild spots of soiling to textblock edges. About very good. Signed, inscribed, and dated by Orlovsky to title page.
Presentation copy of this collection by poet and actor Peter Orlovsky (1933-2010), as inscribed by him in 1982 to American writer and activist Margaret Randall (here not uncharacteristically misspelled by Orlovsky as "Margret Randel"): "Good to see you in Manauga [sic]." Randall was a close friend of Allen Ginsberg and Orlovsky's dating back to the 1950s. From 1980 to 1984, she lived in Managua, Nicaragua. In January 1982, Orlovsky and Ginsberg traveled to Managua, where Ginsberg drafted the “Declaration of Three” with Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Ernesto Cardenal—during which trip Orlovsky seems to have presented this copy to Randall. A nice association.
