The Night Climbers of Cambridge

MAILAENDER, Thomas and Kalev Erickson, eds; Ian Jeffrey, text

MAILAENDER, Thomas and Kalev Erickson, eds; Ian Jeffrey, text

[London]: Archive of Modern Conflict, 2014. [110]pp; b&w plates. 4to. Black velveteen blind-titled to front board and spine. Fine.

Full-bleed black-and-white images of 1930s Cambridge students scaling campus buildings at night, many of which originally appeared in the 1937 book of the same name, authored by the pseudonymous Whipplesnaith [Noël Howard Symington]. This work, which omits Whipplesnaith's original narrative, presumably includes numerous images not from the original, as well as 13 half-sized leaves reproducing images and manuscript text, apparently from the "Cambridge climbers’ archive," which according to the publisher's website was acquired by French artist (and co-editor) Thomas Mailaender. Essay at center by Ian Jeffrey.
