MYERS, Jo-Anne Echevarria
Cape May, NJ: The Inkwell, 1982. No. 38 of 100 copies. [34]pp; illus. Postmarked canvas over boards; black cloth-tape backstrip. Shelfwear to boards; a touch of fraying to cloth at corners; gold sticker/fore-edge seal torn and partially peeled from front board. Very good.
Artist's book documenting a conceptual mail art project in which Myers sent "letter paintings" to various recipients, instructing them that the painting would only be complete once it had been "returned to sender." Contents consist of reproduced images of the mailed works, as well as a selection of Myers' introductory letters and replies from recipients, who included Andy Warhol, Lucas Samaras, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, Edward Gorey, Ray Johnson, et al. The boards of each copy of the book were uniquely bound with one of the letter paintings—this copy having originally been sent to Mina Roustayi at the Whitney Museum of American Art, with attendant postmarks, stamps, and addresses hand-lettered by Myers.
