MUNARI, Bruno
MUNARI, Bruno
NY: The Museum of Modern Art, 1967. Hand-numbered "No. 180" to base of final leaf. [18] leaves of vellum and (die-cut) colored stock; sewn-in red thread. Square 8vo. Saddle-stapled in black wraps; laminated red jacket. Short tear to the string hole on third vellum leaf, light toning to edges of leaves, front jacket flap slightly mis-folded; very good.
Nice copy of the best-known iteration of Munari's "unreadable" series of artist's books, in which the passage of a sewn-in red thread tells a "visual story that can be understood by following the thread that represents it." Though the rear jacket flap gives an edition size of 2,000, Maffei inexplicably cites a print run of 636 copies (Munari's Books, p. 119).
