MOYSE, Arthur; Y. Hashimoto, intro.

Tokyo: IDEA Publishing House, 1974. [2]pp, [22] leaves, halftone illustrated to rectos only in various colors. 4to. Illustrated wraps, cloth spine tape; matching jacket. Foxing to covers; light crease to bottom fore-corner; toning to first leaf. About very good.

Collection of twenty-two illustrations by Anglo-Irish writer, artist, and anarchist Arthur Moyse (1914-2003); social commentary of a mordantly surrealist bent, with many of the works having originally appeared on the covers of such avant-literary mags as Private Eye, Breakthru, Poetmeat, and Moyse's own The Golden Convolvulus. The same sequence was previously published in England as a portfolio of black-and-white prints, titled Arthur Moyse's Wildly Flowering, Sinisterly Creeping, Joyously Twining, Beautiful Terrible Garden World (1968). This Japanese edition, with an introduction by Y. Hashimoto, is distinguished by its attractive print quality, the images nicely executed in a variety of bold colors. Of this edition, OCLC locates only a single holding, at the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam.
