Forty sonnets by English writer and counterculture icon Joseph Mellen (b. 1939), best known as a trepanation advocate and for his account of his own self-trepanation, Bore Hole (1975). At least one poem here (XIV) makes direct reference to Mellen's self-trepanation; others explores themes of drug use (XXV), love, consciousness, etc., with Biblical and Classical allusions sprinkled throughout. With printed dedication to Amanda [Feilding], Mellen's long-time partner. OCLC locates a single holding, at UC Davis.
