LOVE STREET
LOVE STREET
[San Francisco]: [Love Street], [1968]. Unbound tabloid, [12]pp., illus., covers and centerfold in three-color gradient. Horizontal fold, with minor tears to fore-edge; moderate toning. Very good.
An attractive and somewhat mysterious hippie-era artifact, possibly the first issue of San Francisco underground newspaper Haight Ashbury Love Street, later issues of which all have volume numbers. Contents a mix of poems, drawings, comix, and anti-war messaging, the highlight being an early printing in three-color gradient of "Disneyland Memorial Orgy," Wally Wood's infamous 1966 depiction of Disney characters in states of lewd congress. N.B. Confusion reigns among institutional holders of Haight Ashbury Love Street regarding the year of publication, no copies apparently having print dates; our dating derives from the presence of "June 1968" in the illustrated heading on p. 3.
