An African Folktale

[Guildford, Surrey]: Circle Press, 1979. No. 26 of 200 copies signed and numbered in pencil by Legge at front, and again to loose leaf at rear. [2], 25, [5]pp. Nine unbound bifolia, 15 x 11-1/4 in., the last housing a single leaf. First three sections with mild crease at base near spine; light spotting to blind intaglios on pages 9 & 15; a few leaves with mild vertical warping, primarily at edges. Very good or better. In a cloth-covered solander box with embossed spine titles and front cover motif in brown.

Adaptation of an Efik Ibibio folktale, as blind intaglioed, screen printed, and letterpressed on heavy rag paper. Willow Legge (b. 1934) is a British artist and sculptor, and the wife of Ron King, who founded Circle Press in 1967. One of several bookworks on which the couple has collaborated, and an expectedly handsome production.
