JORGENSEN, Christine; Harry Benjamin, intro.
NY: Paul S. Ericksson, 1967. xvii, 332pp; [8]pp b&w plates at center. White marbled paper over boards; gray quarter cloth; dust jacket. Near fine, with light toning to edges of textblock. Unclipped jacket with a 1" closed tear at base of rear panel, a few pinpricks of loss at spine ends. Signed and inscribed by Jorgensen to half-title verso.
First edition of this autobiography by American actress, singer, and activist Christine Jorgensen (1926-1989). Jorgensen's gender affirming surgeries of the 1950s were widely covered in the media, making her one of the most high-profle transgender people of her generation—a celebrity status she capitalized on both as a performer and in her role as an advocate for trans rights. A nice copy of an important and epochal work, with introduction by Harry Benjamin.
