Jennifer Bartlett

NY: Abbeville Press Publishers, 1985. 168pp; b&w & color illus. Square 4to. Blue cloth, stamped in gilt on front board and spine; dust jacket. Near fine in like jacket. Signed & inscribed on the half-title to New York School poet, librettist, and publisher Kenward Elmslie (1929-2022): “For Kenward love Jennifer Christmas 1985.”

Presentation copy of this heavily illustrated monograph of the American painter Jennifer Bartlett (1941-2022), published for an exhibition of her work at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. With texts by Marge Goldwater, Roberta Smith, and Calvin Tompkins. Kenward Elmslie’s play City Junket premiered at Eye and Ear Theater in 1980 where Bartlett was on the advisory board. She also provided art for the cover of Elmslie’s Three Sisters (Z Press, 1986). A nice association.
