HRABAL, Bohumil (text), and Miroslav Peterka (photo)

Prague: Ceskoslovensky Spisovatel, 1967. First edition. [100]pp; b&w plates. Black cloth titled in green; dust jacket. Leaves toned; light wear and perimeter sunning to boards. Jacket toned, with chip at head of front panel and several creased edge tears. Very good in good jacket.

Collaborative work pairing a text by celebrated Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal (1914-1997) with 52 nicely done gravure photographs by Miroslav Peterka (1924-1990). An "urban meditation that uses photographic fragments, glimpses of the urban streetscape, to make a wider point about our political situation in the late twentieth century" (Parr & Badger, v. 1, pp. 222-223). Notably, Hrabal's work was banned following the Soviet Warsaw Pact invasion the following year.
