GRIFFIN, Brian

GRIFFIN, Brian

London/Stockport: Black Pudding/Dewi Lewis, 1986/2012. [46] unopened leaves, printed rectos only; b&w plates; tissue guards. Plain boards backed with yellow cloth; glassine wrapper; housed in clamshell box, with single sheet of notes. No. 7 of 65 copies, numbered and signed to front board. Light wear to corners; short closed tear to front of glassine jacket.

A photobook with conceptual bent by British fashion and music photographer Brian Griffin (1948-2024), the leaves being unopened such that one can see only the pages with the titles, and not the plates themselves: a gesture intended by Griffin as an homage following the deaths of his father and his close friend Barney Bubbles. Originally self-published in 1986 in an edition of 350 copies, not all of which were completed/issued, this re-edition is comprised of 65 deadstock copies discovered in storage in 2012, signed and numbered by Griffin and issued in a clamshell box with sheet of notes from the publisher explaining the book's history. The original edition included in Parr & Badger, v2, p.68.
