First edition of this noteworthy children's book, widely acknowledged as one of the first to feature a non-gendered child as its principal character. Originally published as a short story in the December 1972 issue of Ms. magazine, and subsequently reprinted in numerous feminist and science fiction anthologies (both with and without the Jacqueline Chwast illustrations, here in their first appearance); also the basis for a 2016 animated short film, Baby X, directed by Brendan Bradley.
