[3 Signed Postcards Addressed to Morris Golde]

ELMSLIE, Kenward

ELMSLIE, Kenward

West Hampton Beach, NY/Calais, VT/Montego Bay, Jamaica: [Kenward Elsmlie], 1971-1979. 3 stamped and postmarked postcards of varying sizes between 3-1/2 x 4-1/2 and 4 x 6 inches, with holograph text to versos. Mild wear and toning; very good.

Three postcards sent by poet, librettist, and publisher Kenward Elmslie (1929-2022) to Morris Golde (1920-2001), an arts patron noted for his support of composers and poets, among the latter John Ashbery and Frank O'Hara (whose death occurred while staying at Golde's Fire Island summer home). In one postcard, sent from Jamaica (date unknown), Elmslie invites Golde to an upcoming birthday party for his partner, Joe Brainard. The second, sent from West Hampton in 1971, communicates a brief Christmas greeting. The third, sent in 1979 from Elmslie's Calais, Vermont summer home, includes updates on the artistic activities of Elmslie, his musical collaborator Bill Elliott, and Brainard. An interesting association between two patrons noted for their extensive support of New York School poets.
