ELLISON, Ralph
ELLISON, Ralph
NY: Modern Library, [1963]. 439pp. 12mo. Blue cloth; dust jacket. Light bump to bottom front board corner, mild toning to edges of textblock. Very near fine in a very good jacket, price-clipped, with light wear and rubbing at spine, a few short closed tears.
First Modern Library printing of Ralph Ellison's landmark 1952 novel, a poignant exploration of the Black experience in mid-century America. This copy with the following points marking it as the first ML printing of 1963: Style 11 binding, in blue cloth, with Rockwell Kent-designed endpapers; list of titles to jacket verso includes Ellison's Invisible Man but not Bernard Malamud's Two Novels, thus dating it to fall 1963. Nice copy. Toledano 338.1*
