A wide-ranging, illustrated survey of occultism purporting to trace the "history of magic rituals and ceremonies around the world, both past and present" (jacket flap). An early work by the Puerto Rico-born cultural anthropologist Migene González-Wippler (b. 1936), noted particularly for her numerous books exploring the Afro-Cuban religion of Santeria. Laid in to this copy is an illustrated Spanish-language postcard, signed by González-Wippler to verso, advertising a later book on dreams, Sueños: lo que significan para usted.
