COLE, Larry, with Ralph Romero, Pauli Vizzio, Eddie Burgos, and Charlie Galletti

NY: Grossman Publishers, 1970. First edition; review copy, with slip laid in. 180pp; b&w illus. Tan cloth; brown spine titles; orange topstain; dust jacket. Softening to spine ends. Else fine in a very good jacket, unclipped, with small chip at head of rear panel, several short closed tears.

Profiles of children living on the streets of New York in the 1960s, as authored by the founder of one-time social justice organization Lower East Side Action Project (LEAP). Half the book consists of Cole's impressions of the children's lives - "street warfare, drugs baptisms, dances, courts, evictions, weddings, and wakes," per the jacket flap - the other half of essays and stories in their own words. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white photo-reproductions. Uncommon.
