A sharp first printing of the sole book by American writer George Cain (1943-2010), a semi-autobiographical novel about a Black man struggling to overcome heroin addiction in the wake of his prison release; lauded in a 2018 New Yorker article by Leslie Jamison as a "powerful literary account of addiction."
