BURROUGHS, William S.
BURROUGHS, William S.
[San Francisco]: Beach Books, Texts & Documents, 1968. Stated second printing (in fact the 3rd edition, per Maynard and Miles; see note below). 19pp; b&w illus. 4to. Saddle-stapled in wraps. Toning to newsprint leaves; creasing and surface abrasion to top rear corner. Very good or better.
A radical reworking via collage and cut-up technique of a 1957 scholarly article Burroughs wrote regarding the experimental apomorphine treatments he received to overcome his heroin addiction; here reframed as a commentary on the addictive powers of language. The first edition of APO-33 was intended to be issued by Ed Sander's Fuck You Press but owing to production difficulties, only a handful of copies were produced. A second edition was published by Beach Books in 1966 and reprinted in 1967. This third edition identical to the second save for minor changes to front cover verso. Nice copy of a work often encountered the worse for wear. Shoaf 12a. Maynard & Miles A12c.
