Every TV Needs A Revolution [Signed; with ALS to Birnbaum]

BIRNBAUM, Dara

BIRNBAUM, Dara

Gent: Imschoot, uitgevers, [1993]. No. I of XX copies signed and dated by Birnbaum to first leaf. [112]pp; illus; printed in silver, black, and gray, with varnishes. Plain gray cloth over boards; dust jacket. Leaves lightly toned, thus near fine in a jacket with a few spots of minor edge wear.

An artist's book by Dara Birnbaum (1946-2025) making commentary on the relationship between public space and mass media; described thus by the publisher: "Images taken from anonymous street posters in Paris, during the May 1968 revolt, are blown up and manipulated, twenty-five years later." Per a catalog on the Imschoot, iutgevers website, the book was issued in a wrappered edition of 1,000 copies, along with 40 signed and numbered hardcover copies—a fact seemingly at odds with the I/XX numbering present here. This copy, from Birnbaum's library, also with a laid-in ALS on Imschoot, iutgevers letterhead from Eline [Robin, presumably], presenting the book and explaining that the "page with the credit to the "unknown poster" artists" had not been added yet (although it indeed appears to be present at p. [3]). A desirable example of one of very few bookworks by the noted video artist.
