First edition of this biography of Black activist George Jackson (1941-1971), who died during an escape attempt at San Quentin State Prison in 1971. Armstrong was the editor of Soledad Brother (1970), a collection of letters written by Jackson during his ten-year incarceration, and a surprise best-seller that made Jackson something of a celebrity in leftist and intellectual circles.
