ANTI UTOPIA; Bruce Witsiepe, Tony Pinotti, Rick Letendre, et al.

ANTI UTOPIA; Bruce Witsiepe, Tony Pinotti, Rick Letendre, et al.

NY: Anti Utopia, 1987. No. 83 of 100 copies. 36pp; b&w illus. 8vo; saddle-sewn with gray thread; illustrated wraps with map element mounted on front cover; glassine pockets to front and rear cover, each containing a single laid-in color print and protective vellum sheet. About fine, in original glassine bag with toning, chipping, and tears.

First issue (of four total) of this artist's serial produced by the print collective Anti Utopia, a group closely associated with seminal NYC art and music center ABC No Rio. Publishers Bruce Witsiepe, Tony Pinotti, and Rick Letendre were three of the founding members of American experimental rock band Circle X, likewise a mainstay of the ABC No Rio scene. Contents here a mix of reproduced art (drawings, prints, collages) and writing (manifestos, poems, prose narratives), with color etchings by Tony Pinotti and Bobbie Fultz laid into pockets at front and rear, respectively. A scarce document of a fertile moment in the late 1980s downtown arts scene. OCLC locates no holdings of this issue (and only four holdings of any issue—all number 4; though unrecorded in OCLC, NYPL has issues 3 and 4). A complete list of contributors to this issue: Jay Bogan, Barbara Crawford, Robin Dann, Susan Demirijian, Louis Dilivio, Bobbie Fultz, Leslie Hill, Rik Letendre, Donald Miller, Tony Pinotti, Edward Rollins, Martin Rollins, Ruben Ruenes, Byron Stevens, Hide Tsuda, S.L.W., and Bruce Witsiepe.
