Fort Wayne, IN: Angry Young Woman, 1995-1998. 5 vols. 19; 43; 30; 30; 30pp; b&w illus. 4to (Nos. 4 & 5: 8-1/2 x 11 in; Nos. 6-8, 7 x 10-1/2 in, newsprint). Saddle-stapled in self wraps. Scattered cover soiling and corner wear; nos. 6-8 toned throughout; altogether good to very good.
Final five (of eight total) issues of this lively feminist zine, produced by Gloria Diaz while living in Fort Wayne, Indiana as a post-college twentysomething. True to its title, much of the zine is dedicated to rants against such personal and societal irritants as men ("How do I hate men? Let me recount the ways..." in #4), sexism ("Barbie as Riot Grrrl" in #5), work ("Last Days in Hell: I quit my job at the newspaper," in #5) , smokers, higher education, white supremacy, etc. With much space also dedicated to zine and music reviews, band interviews (The Migraines, Sweet Baby Onion, Phoebe Legere); with black-and-white illustrations and photographs throughout. Contents principally the work of Diaz, but with additional contributors including Sharon Hart ("Rush Limpballs Gets Castrated" in #5), Debbie Goad ("Animals Are Better Than People," in #6), Kimberly J. Bright ("The Politics of Condom Use" in #6) , Marsha Brandsdorfer ("Aging and Vanity" in #8), et al. Diaz has acknowledged as a key influence on Angry Young Woman Jim and Debbie Goad's seminal (and notorious) early 1990s zine, Answer Me!, as well as the punk-inflected feminism of the Riot Grrrl movement. OCLC reports three institutions holding copies: Columbia, Michigan, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. $400
