Popeye : Magazine for City Boys, No. 94, January 10, 1981

Tokyo: Heibon Shuppan Co., 1981. 178pp.; illus. Quarto; saddle-stapled in publisher's illustrated wraps. Some headings in English, else all text in Japanese. Soiling along spine of wraps; toning to textblock. Very good.

An early issue of this influential and long-running Japanese lifestyle magazine, founded in 1976 and still published today: a mix of pop culture and fashion aimed at urban young men—or "city boys" as the magazine's subtitle would have it—and a treasure-trove of period advertising and design. This issue featuring the general umbrella theme "Have You Experienced?" with individual articles on windsurfing in the bahamas, vintage science fiction magazines, Hawaiian diving, etc., with several illustrations by and an illustrated spread at rear dedicated to the work of artist Tadanori Yokoo. Plus the usual mix of film, fashion, music, books, gossip, and more.
