Popeye : Magazine for City Boys, No. 127, May 25, 1982

Tokyo: Heibon Shuppan Co., 1982. 170pp.; illus. Quarto; saddle-stapled in publisher's illustrated wraps. Some headings in English, else all text in Japanese. Light edgewear; toning to textblock; one leaf with corner torn off and reattached with tape. Very good.

An early issue of this influential and long-running Japanese lifestyle magazine, founded in 1976 and still published today: a mix of pop culture and fashion aimed at urban young men—or "city boys" as the magazine's subtitle would have it—and a treasure-trove of period advertising and design. This issue with the somewhat nebulous umbrella theme "Why, Cool Down?" encompassing such themes as fashion, study, cooking, kitchen, sports gear, etc. Plus the usual mix of film (Conan the Barbarian), fashion, music, book reviews (The Great Sundial Cutout Book), gossip, and more.
