A touch of (adhesive?) soiling to bottom front corner, softening to base of spine. Else very fine in a fine jacket, price-clipped and with "5.00" stamped in black at base of front flap.

First appearance of this translation of the satirical picaresque that consumed the final years of Flaubert's life, first published in France in 1881, the year after his death. Here translated by T W. Earp and G. W. Stonier, with an introduction by Lionel Trilling.
