NY: The Oracle of Thoth, 1981. Saddle-stapled in pictorial wraps printed green and black, 11 x 8-3/8 in. 32pp.; illus. Very good or better, with short splits at spine ends.
A single issue—the last?—of this periodical of pan-African occultism, notable in present context for two articles on marijuana: “How Marijuana Affects You,” by publisher Ra Un-Nefer Amen, a cautionary account of marijuana’s effects on the body, and “A History of Marijuana” by Maxine Cleghorne. With other articles on African hair styles, hatha yoga’s benefits for menstrual problems, etc. Ra Un-Nefer Amen is the chosen name of Panamanian-born Rogelio Alcides Straughn (b. 1944) a one-time member of the Rosicrucian Anthropological League in New York who in 1973 founded the Ausar Auset Society, which incorporates Western occult traditions into an Afrocentric framework. This periodical established in 1980 and apparently succeeded in 1981 by the longer-running Oracle of Tehuti. We find only two OCLC holdings for this periodical, neither of which include this issue.
