Psychedelic Art

MASTERS, Robert E. L., and Jean Houston

MASTERS, Robert E. L., and Jean Houston

NY: Grove Press / Balance House, 1968. First edition. 190pp; index; b&w and color illus; plates. 4to; orange cloth stamped in green to front board; metallic purple spine titles; dust jacket. Spine slightly cocked. Else near fine in a very good, unclipped jacket with a couple of short closed tears and rubbing/soiling at spine ends and tips.

A nice copy of this overview of the relationship between hallucinogenic drugs and visual art. Lavishly illustrated throughout, including dozens of color plates, mostly with examples of works produced by artists under the influence of psychedelics. Co-authored by the husband-and- wife team also responsible for The Varieties of Psychedelic Experience (1966), and notable for their involvement in the countercultural Human Potential Movement of the late 1960s. With chapters also written by Barry N. Schwartz and Stanley Krippner.
