FROST, Gavin and Yvonne, eds.

Survival : A Bi-Monthly Publication of the Church & School of Wicca

New Bern, NC: Godolphin House, 1992-1996.
24 vols., variously paginated from 24-36pp. 8vo. Side-stapled in printed wraps. All volumes with hole punched at top left corner. Else most volumes very good to near fine, with others showing more significant corner wear and/or cover soiling. Nos. 101-103 give as editor “Donna,” with the rest credited to “Gavin and Yvonne.”

A broken run (Nos. 101-121, then 123-125) of this newsletter published by the Church and School of Wicca, founded by Gavin and Yvonne Frost in 1968 and one of the earliest examples of Neopagan revival groups in the U.S. Contents a mix of church
news, letters to the editor, poetry, horoscopes, word searches, a running column titled “Psychic Experiences,” two columns by P. Scott Hollander (“The Write Way,” on graphology, and the miscellaneous “In Other Words...”), serialized fantasy fiction, magical topics (qabala, totem animals, banishment, aromatherapy), etc. All volumes with a pull-out advertising pamphlet, “Croatoan Market,” bound in at center, and offering for sale such items as cassette tapes, garter kits, astrological charts, and enrollment in church courses. A nice representation of this long-running church’s primary publication, and uncommon; OCLC locates only a handful of libraries holding copies of this title.
