With contributions from Margaret Walker (a reading of whose included poem "On Malcolm X" was the inspiration for the book), Gwendolyn Brooks, Ted Joans, Robert Hayden, Etheridge Knight, LeRoi Jones, and others. Introduction by Dudley Randall and Margaret G. Burroughs, with a preface and a eulogy by Ossie Davis.

Perfect-bound in printed wraps, 8 1/4 x 5 1/4 in.; xxvi, with bibliography, author and poem-title indexes, and list of Broadside Press publications at rear. Light to moderate soiling to covers. Toning to textblock edges and spine. Old price neatly inked at interior corner of front cover. Else very good (+): clean, unmarked, and with a sturdy, uncreased spine. A title that saw numerous editions and printings; particularly scarce in the first.
